Inventory control assessment for small scale sCO2 heat to power conversion systems

چکیده

The control of the main cycle parameters in supercritical CO2 (sCO2) systems during off-design and transient operation is crucial for advancing their technological readiness level. In smaller scale power units (<0.5–5 MW), costs complexity constraints limit number auxiliary components loop, making design system even more challenging. Among possible strategies, regulation inventory, which consists varying fluid mass loop to achieve a given target, represents promising alternative. Such technique however poses several technical challenges that are still be fully understood. To fill this gap, work presents comprehensive steady-state analysis inventory systems, referring particular 50 kW sCO2 test facility being commissioned at Brunel University. Stability implications (e.g. pressure gradients loop) effects variable tank size discussed. Tank volumes 3 times higher than one (including receiver) can lead controllability range (±30% nominal turbine inlet temperature) an extended availability action (slower discharge). A PI controller also designed regulate temperature around target 465 °C response waste heat variations.

Cost Effective Small Scale Orc Systems for Power Recovery from Low Grade Heat Sources

The growing need to recover power from low grade heat sources, has led to a review of the possibilities for producing systems for cost effective power production at outputs as little as 20-50kWe. It is shown that by utilizing the full potential of screw expanders instead of turbines, it is possible to produce Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems at these outputs, which can be installed for a cos...

An adaptive modified firefly algorithm to unit commitment problem for large-scale power systems

Unit commitment (UC) problem tries to schedule output power of generation units to meet the system demand for the next several hours at minimum cost. UC adds a time dimension to the economic dispatch problem with the additional choice of turning generators to be on or off.  In this paper, in order to improve both the exploitation and exploration abilities of the firefly algorithm (FA), a new mo...

Waste Heat to Power Systems

Waste heat to power (WHP) is the process of capturing heat discarded by an existing industrial process and using that heat to generate power (see Figure 1). Energyintensive industrial processes—such as those occurring at refineries, steel mills, glass furnaces, and cement kilns—all release hot exhaust gases and waste streams that can be harnessed with wellestablished technologies to generate el...
